Built to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the French Revolution, the Eiffel Tower is 324 metres tall and, for more than 40 years, it was the tallest tower in the world.

At the 1900 World Fair, people were able to see some of the latest inventions, such as films in which, for the first time, people were talking. The World Fair also popularized “Art Nouveau”, a popular style of design.

The Musée d’Orsay was originally a train station, and it was opened in 1900. It became a museum in 1986 and now contains many famous Belle Époque paintings.

The underground metro also opened in 1900, on the 19th of July, and is still used by nearly 1.4 billion passengers every year.
